ECG To Be Sold?

Incredible information reaching the Daily Searchlight indicates that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is busy contemplating the sale of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

So far, this paper has heard that the matter has been breached with the Senior Staff Association (SSA) of the Electricity Company of Ghana where the proposal is meeting with stiff resistance.

Suggestions in some quarters however suggest that it is only the operations of ECG in the city of Accra catchment area which would be cut off and ‘privatised’ on behalf of a company coming from the United States of Ghana.

ECG currently makes annual sales running into the hundreds of millions of dollars and has installations running into the billions of dollars.

Industry sources insist that any decision to sell off the prized company would have far-reaching consequences.

This paper is reliably informed that the meeting centered on how to raise funds for the company, issues of discipline and the SSA’s ‘Annual Week Celebrations-Back To School Program.'

The sources revealed however that towards the end of the meeting, when Other Matters had been tabled, and the National President of the SSA suddenly announced that the government of Ghana had decided to sell off the Electricity Company of Ghana.

However, an attempt to discuss the issue was truncated following the uproar that followed the announcement.

The reliable sources stated that they have heard that already the issue of the sale had been broached to management before the meeting with the SSA by the government.

Meanwhile, we have heard that today the SSA’s top management, the national executive of the SSA, management and government representatives would hold a crucial meeting on this decision at the headquarters of ECG in Accra.
