First Batch Of Nominees For RTP Awards 2014 Out!

Big Events Ghana, organizers of the prestigious Radio & TV Personality Awards; a scheme which seeks recognize and reward seasoned Radio and TV players who have, over the years, contributed immensely towards the development of the industry in Ghana, and have also endeared themselves to listeners and viewers have released nominations for this year’s event.

According to Prince Mackay, the Founder and CEO of the Radio and Television Personality Awards (RTP AWARDS) Africa, this is the first batch of nominations and the second and final set of nominations will be release soon.

After nearly four hours of prizes, performances and the occasional bleeped expletive, the 2014 BET Awards came to a close. When it was all over, Pharrell Williams had two trophies, as did newcomer August Alsina, and Lil Wayne dropped the mike, apparently breaking it.

Accepting her fifth consecutive award for female hip-hop artist, Nicki Minaj gave a rambling speech in which she said she was recently near death.

Nicki Minaj told the crowd at the BET Awards that she was close to death recently -- an experience that has helped her be herself.

The rapper rambled onstage when accepting her fifth consecutive win for best female hip-hop artist, where she thanked Lil Wayne for his support, talked about writing her own lyrics and about getting the credit she deserves in the industry.

"The other day, literally I didn't tell anybody this, I really thought I was about to die. Like, I was saying my prayers to die. And I didn't even want to call the ambulance because I thought, `Well if I call the ambulance, it's going to be on TMZ,"' she said, as some of the audience laughed.

"And I would rather sit there and die," she added, looking to the crowd. "And it made me realize I don't care what anybody got to say. I'm going to do me."

Davido has claimed the award for Best International Act: African category at the 2014 BET Awards.
The Aye singer, who was nominated alongside African Acts like our very own VGMAs Multiple award winner Sarkodie, Nigeria's songtress Tiwa Savage and South Africa's multiple award winning Group Mafikizolo, was handed the award at a pre-event taping before the ceremony holds tonight.

Sarkodie, and a number of African acts have been announced as performers for BET’s L.A experience event, happening from June 27-29. The event, a pre music concert to the main awards show will feature some of the biggest names in music from around the world. Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage, and Ice Prince as well as South Africa’s Mafikizolo will also perform as part of the “Music Around the Globe” presentation during the weekend of June 27-29.
