Celebrating Life Of Akwasi Ampofo Adjei (Mr. A.A.A) Ten Years On

The family and fans of the late ace musician and dramatist, Akwasi Ampofo Adjei (Mr. A.A.A) of the Kumapem Royal Band are set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his demise with a series of events celebrate his contribution to the growth of Ghana’s music.

The man popularly known as Mr A.A.A. passed away on 2nd August, 2004.

Akwasi Ampofo Adjei's sterling achievements in the field of drama and music are outstanding and for almost three decades, was on the fore-front of high-life music. No doubt he deserves to be mentioned in honours as one of the most successful musicians in Ghana.

Having been greatly influenced by his parents and support of choral groups like 'Soul Believers' and Rainbow beats,' a foundation was laid for the great tomorrow he envisaged.

After featuring in movies like 4 Play, Single and Married, Single 6, Purple Rose and others, Liberian-born Ghanaian actor, Eddie Watson Junior is set to release his first self-produced movie, ‘JACK AND JILL’.

U.S. House Panel Votes to Authorize Lawsuit Against Obama @BarackObama

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday took another step toward authorizing a lawsuit against President Barack Obama, claiming he has overstepped his executive powers.
In a partisan vote of 7-4, the House Rules Committee approved the legislation, likely setting it up for consideration by the full House next week. The Republican initiative already has spawned a bitter debate with Democrats less than four months before elections that will determine the political control of Congress next year.

Student Hangs Herself Over Unpaid School Fees

A second-year day student of the Agona Swedru School of Business (SWESBU), Miss Lvy Owusu was on Monday found handing in an uncompleted building at Agona Swedru.

A Police spokesman pleading anonymity who made this known to newsmen at Agona Swedru on Tuesday, said the mother of the girl, Madam Ekua Amoafowah told them that the girl did not go to school on Monday because she owed school fees.

The policeman said the woman claimed that she asked her daughter in the morning to go to school with the promise of looking for a loan to settle the school fees of 190 Ghana Cedis, after which she left for market.

Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan has described the last two weeks as “the most stressful period of my entire life”.

Speaking on Friday, ahead of trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to rejoin his club Al-Ain, Gyan said he survived the difficult period only due to the grace of God and support from family and friends.

Gyan was making reference to the loss of his friend, Theophilus Tagoe, a.k.a Castro, who has been missing for two weeks now.

Hundreds of Ghanaians will next week stage a peaceful protest march on behalf of government against the American Embassy in Ghana for launching an attack on a social media post by President John Dramani Mahama.

Man Slashes Son’s Throat Over Sex Denial By Wife

Tragedy struck the Kpeyiborme community, near Kpeve in the Peki District, last Friday when a 37-year-old farmer brutally murdered his three-year-old son.

The suspect, Gideon Abotsi, aka Jarah, allegedly severed the head of his son, Sitsofe Abotsi, with a machete on a piece of wood to protest his wife’s decision not to have sex with him again.

Abotsi is currently in the custody of the Peki-Avetile Police, who are conducting investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, members of the farming community are still in a state of shock over the conduct of the suspect and wondering what could have come over the man, whom some described as reserved and calm and who lived peacefully with his wife, Sena Ahiable, and their children.

Ghanaian born UK based Afrobeats artist Fuse ODG has finally dropped the much awaited official video to his monster hit Silver plaque single Dangerous Love featuring Sean Paul.

Until the arrest of 34-year-old Edward Kwabena Botri, residents of Mataheko in Accra had for the past three years mistaken him for a military officer.

Not only did he parade as a military officer in the area, but he also threatened and harassed the residents and on a number of occasions assaulted some of them.

The suspect, who was usually seen in a military uniform, is said to have always brandished a gun which he fired in the night and sometimes during the day.

More than 30 policemen yesterday broke open all the padlocks put on spare parts shops belonging to Nigerian businessmen at Suame in Kumasi.

The shops, numbering more than 30, were forcibly locked up by some members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) who claimed that under the country’s trade laws, foreigners, including Nigerians, were not allowed to engage in retail trade.

But the Nigerians refuted the allegations and indicated that they had fulfilled all the legal requirements before operating their businesses in Ghana.

The police had to use force to break the padlocks because the members of GUTA had reneged on the agreement they reached with the Ashanti Regional Police Command to amicably open the shops after the command had met with the traders and their Nigerian counterparts.

A three-year-old school girl, her mother and two other people reportedly died instantly Thursday morning when a tipper truck crashed into their taxi cab.

Eye-witnesses say the taxi was torn into shreds and occupants badly crushed.

The Ghana Police service is on a wild goose chase for hiplife musician Theophilus Tagoe popularly known as Castro said to be alive and on admission at a hospital in Togo.

38 Year Old Woman Caught Selling Dead Baby Parts In Lagos

38-year-old Bola Fagbemi was caught at her home in the Alagbado area of the state in possession of a day-old baby’s corpse. Fagbemi who is a hospital worker confessed that she sells baby parts to her ‘customers’. The suspect also alleged that the dead babies were given to her by their parents who had no need for them.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG,) has engaged a Swedish company to produce 1000 megawatts of power using the environmentally friendly tidal wave technology.

To this end, the Swedish company would utilise the exceptionally strong tides at the Ada Estuary by placing a hydro power plant under the sea to convert the tide into energy, the ECG announced over the weekend.

Mr George Marfo, Manager of ECG Training School who announced this during a workshop for journalists on the operations of the company, said the move was part of the ECG’s commitment to engage power producers to generate adequate amount of electricity for distribution to customers.

Some members of the Suame Spare Parts Dealers Association have locked up shops belonging to Nigerian retailers at the Suame Magazine in Kumasi.
The group went round the Suame Magazine trader’s enclave asking the Nigerian traders to vacate their shops.

This follows a protest by members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) who closed their shops in Kumasi to register their displeasure over the influx of foreigners into retail trade in the country.

The Suame Magazine, located in Kumasi is recognized as the largest industrialized area with many workshops for metal engineering and vehicle repairs in Ghana, employing about 200,000 workers.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Greater Accra Regional Secretariat, on Monday warned that any commercial driver who charges more than the 15 per cent vehicle fare as announced would be suspended for three months.
Mr Edmund Amartefio, GPRTU Senior Industrial Relations Officer (IRO) told the GNA in an interview that all commercial drivers through their respective branch unions had been served with the new fare; “but anyone who attempts to take advantage and exploit passengers will be dealt with.

“We have warned drivers not to charge beyond the specified amount as failure to do so will result in a three months suspension for such drivers as stipulated in the constitution of GPRTU,” Mr Amartefio said.
