Miss Malaika Theft Case Adjourned

The trial of Hamamat Montia, winner of the 2006 Miss Malaika beauty pageant in connection with the stealing of a Toyota Highlander belonging to a Finnish businessman, Vejekset Keskinen, was yesterday adjourned.

The adjournment was necessitated because the trial judge Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku was reportedly on leave.

The prosecuting officer in the case, ASP Cletus Kofi Abadamloora arrived in the court by 10:00 am while the suspect came to the court for the commencement of the trial.

They were told that the trial judge was on leave so the case was consequently adjourned to June 16, 2014 at which time the judge would have resumed work.


Keskinen had accused the Miss Malaika winner of stealing his Toyota Highlander valued at $35,000.

The complainant at the last hearing date admitted that he was attracted to her and read e-mail messages in which he called her ‘my love’, but no sexual relationship ever existed between them.

The Finnish national also denied knowledge of ever desiring to embarrass the accused person for breaking up with him.

He admitted having granted interviews to the press in Finland in which he said the beauty queen was his girlfriend but not lovers.

The businessman explained that he sometimes got drunk and attempted at nearly hitting Hamamat, reasons being why she no longer wanted to be associated with him. But, he explained that even though he sometimes got drunk, he never would have hit her.

The Finnish national also denied ever buying the vehicle just to placate the lady after she got angry with him, and that was why he bought her the Highlander.
