Aside from football, Music is undoubtedly one of Ghana’s biggest passions and no one event stirs up our passion be it joy, anger, frustration, excitement…you name it, other than the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Though it takes place at one particular time of the year, its impact is felt throughout the year as it serves as the barometer against which the Ghanaian music industry is measured.
This year the event enters its 14th year and one cannot help but wonder what it has in store for us. A cursory look at last year’s music scene saw a lot of good releases which will make this year quite
competitive with releases from R2Bees, 4X4, Eazzy, VIP, Kwaw Kesse, Stay Jay, EL, Lousika, D-Black, Keche, Herty Borngreat and other talented musicians, that enjoyed massive airplay and had the general public singing along to these songs.
As we await the launch of this year’s event the nominations are currently open and collation of entries has started. According to the organizers, Premium event organizers CharterHouse, the month of January is being dedicated to the collection and collation of entries and research has already started.
Record Labels, producers and artistes are therefore being invited to submit their entries to CharterHouse for entry into this year’s VGMA.
So who makes it to the nomination list? Well I guess we will know in a few weeks time.
