The copyright administrator, Madam Yaa Atefuah, has advised Film producers and content creators to take advantage of the phenomenon change that has taken the world by storm.

She was addressing the newly elected executives of the Film Producers Association of Ghana "FIPAG" when the James Aboagye led administration paid a courtesy call on her in her office.

Madam Atefuah, who's been in the helm of affairs and revered for her position on the collection right society for years told them (FIPAG) to embrace the new technology to monetize their contents online to generate revenue for them.

"Technology has changed things so organisations must take advantage of the rapid change", she said.

"Gone are the days where producers rely solely on CD sales, now, technology has changed the system so "we" must also think of monetizing our contents on digital platforms to generate some monies for us," she added.

On piracy, she said, "the phenomenon is worldwide (happens everywhere) and it's very difficult to combat it especially in the technological (social media) era, so content owners must help the copyright office to fight it."

Aunty Yaa as she's affectionately called, furthermore, advised them to serve those who(FIPAG) voted them into power.

Baffour Gyan and Samuel Anim Addo, brother and personal manager of the Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, have been granted bail by a Kumasi circuit court after they were arraigned on Monday on charges of assault. They were charged on two counts of assault of a regional correspondent of the Daily Graphic, Daniel Kenu at the Baba Yara stadium.

They pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr William Boampong admitted them to bail in the sum of GHȻ30,000 with two sureties. The case was adjourned to Friday September 12, 2014.

Graphic Online’s reporter, Kwadwo Baffoe Donkor reports from the court that even though the prosecution was ready to start the case, counsels for the accused persons, Augustus Anane Kweiba and Oheneba
Kuffuor, pleaded with the court to adjourn the case as they seek for an out of court settlement.
They further pleaded with the court to admit their clients to bail since the offence committed was one that fell under the offences where bail could be granted Mr Anane Kweiba said even though the offence was a bailable one, the discretion lied with the judge and as such “we plead with the court to temper justice with mercy and grant the accused bail.”

He told the court that his clients were ready for an out of court settlement and pleaded with the court not to start the hearing but instead adjourn the case.
He expressed hope that by the next hearing date, the parties involved would have reached an amicable settlement.

The prosecution led by Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Akonnor, objected to the bail and told the court that the accused persons committed the offence with others who were at large and granting them bail would jeopardise the investigations of the police.

However, the presiding judge upheld the bail application by the defense counsels. In granting the accused persons bail, Mr Boampong said he took into consideration the merit of the prosecution claims and that of the defence and the fact that the police themselves had granted the accused persons police inquiry bail.

Supt Emmanuel Akonnor told the court that on September 5, this year, while the complainant Daniel Kenu was going through the process to acquire his media accreditation for the Ghana-Uganda match, the accused persons and others now at large, attacked him and subjected to him severe beatings.
He said it took the intervention of some Good Samaritans to rescue the complainant who later made a complaint to the police and was issued with a police medical form.
According to him , the accused were later arrested and in their caution statement to the police, they denied the charges.
Reverend Father Kelvin Abakisi, a 31-year old Catholic Priest and a tutor at the Saint Victors Major Seminary at Malshegu in the Tamale Metropolis has allegedly committed suicide.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command told the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Monday.

ASP Tetteh said the deceased allegedly committed the suicide on Saturday, August 23 about 19:00 GMT explaining that one Rev. Father Suom Dery also of the Saint Victors Major Seminary visited the bungalow of the deceased and found him hanging on the ceiling of his sitting room.

He said the police were quickly called and upon reaching the scene, they saw the deceased body hanging on a rope with a protruding tongue and foam coming out of his mouth.

ASP Tetteh said the police did not suspect any foul play since an initial examination of the body did not show any sign of struggle and therefore conveyed the body to the Yendi Government Hospital for preservation since all the morgues in the Tamale Metropolis were full.

He explained that Rev. Father Abakisi was recently transferred from the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese to the Saint Victors Major Seminary as a tutor until his demise.
Reports indicate that the former District Chief Executive(DCE) for Ahafo Ano South in the Ashanti region, Gabriel Boamah has been reinstated.
Gabriel Braimah was dimissed by the Local Government Minister after he angrily chided health workers in his district for a comment made by an unidentified person.
Mr. Boamah after telling the workers off stormed out of durbar which was attended by some chiefs in the area.
A video recording of the incident went viral igniting national outrage over the manner in which he spoke to the workers.
He was then investigated by the government and pardoned but was subsequently sacked after he asked for royalties for popularizing ‘tweaa.’
There have been calls for the former DCE to be reinstated by some residents in his district who described his punishment as harsh.

Citi News’ Umaru Amadu Sanda who spoke to Mr. Boamah, said he is yet to receive a letter confirming his reinstatement but he was convinced he is getting his job.
He told Amadu Sanda that he was informed about the decision by the Brong Ahafo regional minister.
The Police Officer stationed at Gomoa Nyanyano who was recently arrested for allegedly stealing electric cables was last Wednesday remanded in prison custody by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court.

The accused, Inspector (Insp) Emmanuel Kojo Ametepey, was charged together with one Abdullai Tijani, and another person whose name was only given as Francis as well as four others who are all on the run.
Insp Ametepey was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing but pleaded not guilty to both counts.
He was subsequently remanded in prison custody to reappear in court on September 10, 2014.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ofori Asante prayed the court, presided over by Ms Abigail Animah Asare, to remand the accused in custody since the police were still investigating the matter.
He stated that six other accused persons were on the run.
Earlier, ASP Asante pleaded with the court to remand the accused to enable the police to conduct further investigations and indicated that if the plea of the accused was taken, it would not serve the course of justice. He therefore prayed the court to remand the accused.
However, the presiding judge responded that it would be unfair for the accused to be remanded if he did not know why he had been put before court.
Counsel for the accused Mr Francis Gasu, responding said what the prosecution was praying the court to do was an attempt to use the court to rubber-stamp an illegality.
He maintained that the accused had the right to be put before court within 48 hours, stressing that he had been in custody for more than 48 hours.
A press conference by the national executives of Ghana’s main opposition, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) turned bloody on Tuesday when some angry party youth stormed the headquarters with machetes.

Some supporters of the party who were present sustained various degrees of injuries while a vehicle belonging to the national women’s organizer, Otiko Djaba was vandalized.

Citi News’ Richard Dela Sky who was at the party’s headquarters where the press conference was held reported that the angry youth stormed the premises with knives and pistols which “resulted in a free for all fight.”

Sky described the situation as “very disturbing and a never-before-seen development here at the NPP headquarters.”

Narrating some of the scenes from the NPP headquarters, Sky said: “I have so far seen about four different youth with blood stains all over their bodies. At one point, I saw one of the guys with a machete using it to stab someone who was in Otiko Djaba’s vehicle. That boy subsequently came out with blood stains over his shirt.”

Some party executives and media men who attended the press briefing were held up on the first floor of the building during the clashes.

“We cannot move out because of the violence currently ongoing. Some people are trying to talk to them to calm down,” Sky reported.

The national chairman, Paul Afoko and the general secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyapong are under severe pressure from some aggrieved party members who say the two are hurting the party by taking unilateral decisions in an attempt to restructure the party.

The party’s acting communications director; Perry Okudzeto was on Friday asked to proceed on a two-year accumulated leave.

The decision caused an outrage in some quarters of the party who were aggrieved by the refusal of Mr. Agyapong to consult the party hierarchy before relieving Mr. Okudzeto of his position.

The angry NPP youth say they are unhappy with the current leadership of the party and are therefore demanding their removal.

The press briefing on Tuesday by Afoko and Agyapong was to explain the rationale behind the decision and also to make further clarifications on other party matters.

The national chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko together with some Police Officers worked to restore calm.
Following lobbying efforts by the Ghana Online Arts Writers Association (GOAWA) against indiscipline in the industry, especially towards the media, GOAWA announces suspension of stories from the camp of BET award winner and Duncwills Entertainment rapper, Sarkodie – until further notice.

The decision is precipitated by the rapper’s recent expression of ungratefulness towards the media and the passage of some comments which we deem as an insult to our profession and us as practitioners.

Efforts are being coordinated with similar Associations/Movements with the common goal of opposing the
act of indiscipline in the music industry in Ghana. This is not to claim that the media is untouchable or is a ‘saintly’ institution – we also do get it wrong sometimes and thus welcome constructive criticisms.

However, Sarkodie’s comments in his song titled ‘Free Press’ smacks of gross ungratefulness. In our efforts to put Ghana on the world map in terms of art and culture through our writings online, we also need to make sure we help shape and keep a well disciplined and focused arts industry.

It’s unfortunate this action might affect our ardent readers and his loyal fans alike, but, we strongly feel this action can help in establishing discipline among industrial players and for a better industry for all. We also urge our members to conduct themselves in manners that do not cast aspersions on the media and themselves – as practitioners. Thank you.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said he hoped goalkeeper Petr Cech will stay loyal to the club despite losing the starting spot to Belgian Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois, 22, who has returned to Chelsea from a successful loan spell with Atletico Madrid, was Mourinho's choice for the club's Premier League opener on Monday, a 3-1 win at Burnley.

Cech has been Chelsea's first choice keeper since joining the club 10 years ago, part of three Premier League winning squads and the 2012 Champions League winning team.

Asked whether Courtois was now the first choice for the rest of the season, Mourinho said he didn't want to look too far ahead.

"I don't like the word 'for the rest of the season'. He is not my first choice for the rest of the season. He was my first choice today and I think he played a game that was good enough to be my first choice in the next game," Mourinho told reporters.

The Chelsea boss said that Courtois would have to remain on top of his game to keep his spot in the side given the competition he faces.

"When you have on your side working like a top professional somebody like Petr, if you don't perform you are in trouble. I am not in trouble I am safe, Chelsea is not in trouble, Chelsea is safe, they are both fantastic goalkeepers," he added.

Mourinho said he expected that Cech would react in the right way to the disappointment of being left out.

"I want to keep (Petr) the club wants to keep him and hopefully he stays," he said.

"I know Petr for 10 years, I know that he won't relax, he won't sit in a chair and say 'I have no chance', I think he will be exactly the opposite.

"I am expecting him on Wednesday to go to the training ground and to be a top professional and to fight to be back in goal," he added.
Winning the 2016 polls, to some political parties, begins now; and as part of measures to safeguard every electoral loophole that was left unguarded in previous general elections, the New Patriotic Party has managed to effect the arrest of fresh voters who were being bused from the Upper East Region to the Ashanti Region to register their names in the ongoing limited registration exercise.

Chairman for the NPP in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, informs Peacefmonline.com that prior to accosting the culprits, he picked up intelligence that the National Democratic Congress would be busing people from the Upper East to the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

As a way of verifying the intelligence he picked, he revealed that he assembled his men at vantage areas to prevent the bused voters from registering their names in the area.

In all, sixty (60) culprits were arrested and thirteen (13) have been handed over to the Zongo Police Station where they have been made to write a statement.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Peacefmonline.com, some of the culprits confessed to them that they were asked to come and register at the Asawase, Oforikrom, Alabar, New Edubiase and Tepa areas.
A businessman, who attacked an employee of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with a cutlass for disconnecting power to his house, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Steward Frimpong, 40, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the charge of causing harm.

Police Inspector Gulliver Kwabena Tenkorang told the court presided over by Mr William Boampong that the incident happened on May 12, at Breman UGC.

The victim, Abdulai Safianu Musah, together with his co-workers had gone on a routine duty of disconnecting electricity supply to customers indebted to the company.

On entering the house of the convict, Musah saw an illegally installed electricity meter and moved in to disable it.

That angered Frimpong, as he picked a cutlass, chased Musah and attempted to slash him in the head.

Musah used the hand to block the strike and in the process had his middle finger cut.

The prosecution said the victim was rushed to the hospital and a formal report was made to the police.

Frimpong in his caution statement claimed he had been attacked by Musah with a bottle and was forced to use the cutlass defend himself.
